Our People

CareOne was founded by the Straus family to create a better way of aging. Today, the integrated health network is managed by an executive leadership team focused on providing the highest quality care across the continuum.

Justin Bhandari is Senior Vice President, Strategy and Projects at CareOne.

With more than 12 years of experience in healthcare, technology and entrepreneurship, Justin’s focus is on leading innovation across the CareOne portfolio to ensure the organization continues to be at the forefront of senior care. In his first few months at CareOne, he launched BridgeCare Provider Group, a post-acute care delivery company that helps improve the quality of care delivered to patients and allows the organization to continue its journey toward value-based healthcare.

Prior to CareOne, Justin served as the Executive Vice President, Operations at post-acute provider group, MPAC Healthcare, leading operations, partnerships, and HR. Before that, he served on the strategy team that helped launch Carelon, Elevance’s (formerly Anthem) healthcare services company.

In addition to his work at CareOne, Justin serves on the Board of Directors for the Admiral at the Lake and the University of Florida Alumni Association – New York; as an Advisor at Redesign Health; a Mentor for Matter Health; and as the Co-Chair of the Membership Programming Committee at Next Series.

Marivic Jed Vanover is Regional Director of Clinical Operations at CareOne.

A highly motivated Post-Masters, AGPCNP, MSN, and MHA with more than 28 years of combined clinical and transformational leadership experience, Jed’s focus at CareOne is regulatory compliance, performance improvement, employee engagement and retention, strategic planning, and patient experience enhancement.

Jed joined CareOne in 2018 and has held multiple roles throughout her tenure. Prior to joining CareOne, she worked in a major hospital in the Philippines, the National Health Service (NHS) in the United Kingdom, and major hospitals in the United States.

Her intercontinental clinical leadership experience and her passion about using advanced practice nursing has vastly contributed to her leadership and operations improvement initiatives across CareOne.

Dana Nichols is CareOne’s Vice President of Clinical Programming at Development.

A registered nurse and LNHA with more than 30 years of combined experience in home care, hospice and palliative care, wound care, psychiatric care, long-term care, and short-term rehabilitation, Dana’s focus is to develop clinical programs to grow opportunities across the care continuum.

She started her career at CareOne as the Director of Nursing Services at CareOne at Lowell, focusing on the Behavioral and Huntington’s disease population. Then, after completing two perfect surveys at CareOne at Lowell, Dana transferred to CareOne at Lexington to oversee the orthopedic rehabilitation program while providing regional support to other director of nursing services and completing her AIT (Administrator in Training) program while at CareOne at Lexington.

Dana is also a Certified Dementia Practitioner and Wound Care Certified Nurse.

Luis Cunha is the Senior Vice President of Strategy and Development at CareOne.

With more than 20 years of sales and leadership experience, Luis provides strategic guidance on the organization’s business development function as well as cross-functional partnerships, innovation, and sales execution.

Prior to his time at CareOne, Luis was a Regional Director of Sales and Marketing at a post-acute care provider, and before that, worked at Eli Lilly in the company’s neuroscience division. There, he worked as an account executive, manager, and ultimately in their prestigious leadership development program.

Luis, having played soccer collegiately, is an avid soccer fan, player, and coach. He received his National C License and has developed some of the top talent in the youth soccer world. Luis carries this passion to the workplace and in all other aspects of his life.

Lisa Rhoads is Vice President of Operations at CareOne, overseeing the daily operations of CareOne’s New Jersey assisted living and long-term care communities.

She started her career at CareOne in 1996 as an Activity Assistant and was subsequently promoted to Director while obtaining her CALA. After that, she became the administrator for CareOne at the Cupola and then moved to CareOne’s connecting rehab and long-term care centers, where she worked for three years to obtain her LNHA. During this time, Lisa also obtained her MPA. After years spent at CareOne at Pine Rest (now CareOne at Ridgewood Avenue), she returned to CareOne at the Cupola. In 2022, she was offered and accepted the Vice President of Operations position.

Lisa thrives on motivating her team and helping them realize their fullest potential.

Jeff Thurston is Senior Vice President of Integrated Systems at CareOne.

A LNHA with more than 20 years of experience in healthcare admissions, Jeff oversees CareOne’s customer relationship management (CRM) platform and is responsible for seamlessly integrating it across CareOne’s admissions, insurance, clinical, and financial systems.

When Jeff initially joined CareOne in 2017, he adopted the company’s first CRM platform and built a centralized admissions process for CareOne’s facilities in Massachusetts. In less than a year, Jeff integrated the CRM – including functionality, testing, problem-solving and staff training – across 30 of CareOne’s facilities. In 2022, he was honored by HealthShare Exchange as an HSX Champion for his efforts in health data sharing, innovation, utilization, and analysis.

Prior to joining CareOne, Jeff worked at Genesis Healthcare as Director of National Care Line Operations, supervising the admissions process for the Genesis Network via the CareLine for 500 centers across 34 states. Previously, he worked in healthcare admissions at the Lowell Health Care Center and Spaulding Rehabilitation Center, respectively.

Marc Richard is CareOne’s Vice President of Property Management, overseeing property operations in MA, CT, PA ,and MD with a blend of skilled, assisted and independent living facilities.

He has more than 40 years of experience in healthcare management spanning privately owned, non-profit, consulting, and large corporations, which has informed his operational knowledge to improve healthcare industry standards.

Prior to CareOne, Marc was overseeing renovations and new construction for SNF, ALF, MC, and IL facilities for Landmark Group, Marquis Healthcare, and Epoch Senior Living. He also previously worked at Genesis Corporation as Regional Property Management, where, during his 11-year tenure, he complied for 33 consecutive months in multiple states, with all agencies earning Deficiency Free surveys, winning him two national rewards. Marc also studied code compliance of all the governing agencies JOC, VA, DPH, LSC, CMS, OSHA, local AJH, and B.O.H and became certified FEMA instructor and OSHA 10 certified.

Michael Spector is CareOne’s Senior Vice President of Culinary Services and Procurement Logistics, overseeing culinary and hospitality operations in MA, CT, PA, and MD, with a blend of skilled, assisted and independent living properties.

He has more than 30 years of leadership, operations, and financial management experience in the healthcare and hospitality senior management industry, with extensive expertise in new unit openings, conversions, and business operations turnarounds.

Michael has provided management services in senior housing since 1999. He got his start in the senior living industry working for Hebrew Senior Life, Roslindale, MA as Culinary and Housekeeping Director at Orchard Cove, a 300-resident CCRC in Canton, MA. In 2008, Michael provided the strategic planning, direction, and management from the construction and design process, through the first year of food and beverage operations for NewBridge on the Charles, a 700-resident, multi-generational CCRC campus in Dedham, MA.

He has earned over a 3 Inspire Impact Score, establishing a culture that motivates employees and instills loyalty.

Jason Twombly is CareOne’s Director of Community Marketing & Business Development.

He started his career at CareOne in 2019 as Director of Community Relations with a focus on CareOne at Newton’s site and was subsequently promoted to Director of Community Marketing & Business Development where he began working on macro marketing efforts for the entire organization.

Prior to CareOne, Jason worked as a Director of Admissions and Marketing at Neville Center, a rehab center in Massachusetts, where he was cross trained in medical supplies, medical records, development, admissions, marketing and other disciplines.

Jason received his bachelor’s degree from UMass Boston. In his free time, he enjoys traveling, automobiles, hiking, water sports, and good food.

Ann Marie Morais is CareOne’s Chief Clinical Officer.

A registered nurse with more than 39 years of experience, Ann Marie has worked in post-acute and long-term care since she was 18. She started as a CNA in high school and became an LPN at just 19 years old. She then grew into a nurse manager and evening supervisor while obtaining her RN and was subsequently promoted to an ADNS, Nurse Consultant and Director of Quality Improvement.

Ann Marie is passionate about providing the highest quality and most compassionate and personalized care to her patients.

In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, gardening, being outdoors and on the water, and reading.

Ryan Murphy is a Vice President of Operations at CareOne, overseeing operations and processes across CareOne’s MA properties, as well as CareOne’s online recruiting program as part of the organization’s broader recruitment strategy.

A LNHA with more than 15 years of experience, Ryan has worked at CareOne for more than four years. Previously, he worked at Marquis Health Services for four years, where he was promoted from Assistant Executive Director to Executive Director.

Prior to that, Ryan worked at Eaton Vance, a Morgan Stanley subsidiary as an Investment Operations Specialist, providing critical business support for the company’s operations. Ryan has also maintained various operational positions at TD, State Street Bank, and Newburyport Five Cent Savings Bank, where he managed data reconciliation, account transitions, record keeping, and fund management, among other responsibilities.

Jeff Crowley is a Vice President of Operations for CareOne’s Massachusetts facilities.

With more than two decades of healthcare experience and 15 years of administration experience, Jeff is committed to maintaining the highest standard of operations for his home center, CareOne at Wilmington, having achieved multiple Deficiency Free Surveys – an anomaly in the state of Massachusetts.

In his current role, he continues to pursue excellence for CareOne’s Massachusetts assisted living and skilled nursing facilities, with a focus on delivering the highest quality of care and customer service.

Prior to serving as CareOne’s Vice President of Operations, Jeff was a Senior Administrator at CareOne at Wilmington.

At home, he has a wife and four children and enjoys coaching and watching them play sports.
