CareOne and HealthBridge Launch $1 Million Fund to Support Employees Struggling With Cancer At July 27th Fenway Park Fundraiser

HealthBridge Employee and Cancer Patient Dan Grimes, 42, and His Family Being Honored as the First Recipient of Fund

Concord, MA – July 16, 2014 – HealthBridge Operations Manager Dan Grimes has spent his professional career taking care of others as the regional manager for the company’s southeastern Massachusetts skilled nursing facilities.

Now it is Dan’s time to be cared for.
At the age of 42, Dan is fighting his toughest fight yet, stage IV lung cancer that has not only motivated the Carver resident to fight back, but has also inspired the company he works for and his colleagues, to join that fight. On July 27th, Dan and his family will be the beneficiaries of a fundraiser at FenwayPark as the kick off to a larger campaign to raise $1 million for employees and their families who are fighting that same battle.
A dedicated husband and father of four children, Dan is just 42 years old and never smoked.

When word of Dan’s illness reached CareOne Management, Chairman and CEO Daniel E. Straus announced that CareOne and HealthBridge would undertake a fundraising campaign to help employees like Dan meet those unexpected expenses so they can focus on their recovery and their families. CareOne has successfully waged other campaigns, raising more than $1 million to help the victims of Hurricane Sandy, donating $250,000 to the One Fund for victims of the Boston Marathon bombing, and raising more than $1 million for The Valerie Fund, an organization providing programs and services for children living with cancer and blood disorders.
“Dan’s story is our story,” said  Straus. “Like all of our employees, he has dedicated his career to helping our skilled nursing care residents and their families. What we do in our profession is care for others, but we also need to take care of our own. We don’t just work in these communities,” continued Straus. “We also live in these communities and when something like this happens, whether it is one man’s battle with cancer or the ravages of a hurricane in New Jersey, it happens to all of us and we need to stand up as a community.”

The CareOne Cancer Fund in Honor of Dan Grimes, Inc.

The CareOne Cancer Fund in Honor of Dan Grimes, Inc. was established to improve the quality of life through charitable financial assistance to individuals, families, and community organizations who are significantly impacted by the effects of cancer. That support will include financial assistance for daily necessities as well as larger items such as cars or appliances when those become unaffordable due to the loss of income and the expenses of medical treatment that creates a hardship for individuals and their families. The grants will also support cancer research.
The FenwayPark fundraiser is expected to attract more than 1,000 participants, many of them colleagues and friends of Dan Grimes, who have already undertaken smaller fundraising events in the communities where HealthBridge operates skilled healthcare facilities, as well as in New Jersey where CareOne operates 29 facilities. The July 27th event will have a baseball theme throughout and includes food, music, special guest appearances, ballpark tours, raffles, silent auctions, and corporate sponsorship donations.  Doors open at 4 p.m. and the event runs until 8 p.m.
