WEYMOUTH – Grimes, a nonsmoker and nursing home administrator with four young children, received the diagnosis in March. He is Southeastern Massachusetts regional manager for HealthBridge Management.

Following his diagnosis, HealthBridge and CareOne started a fund called the CareOne Cancer Fund in Honor of Dan Grimes to raise $1 million to benefit Grimes and other employees faced with unexpected expenses resulting from challenging diagnoses. The fund will also support cancer research.
Grimes is hospitalized but will attend the fundraiser. He said he was grateful to his employer and the community.

“I’m incredibly overwhelmed by the outpouring of support by my family, friends, coworkers and my entire community. I am truly blessed,” he said.
Around 30 people, including employees at the HealthBridge’s Weymouth Health Care Center, raised nearly $1,000 by holding a cookout to benefit Grimes earlier this month.

Grimes’ youngest brother, Andy, said: “I’m not sure I can put into words what it means for our family. Dan is the rock of our family, and when he got sick it blew us all away.”

Tickets are $100 for adults and $20 for children under 12. They can be purchased online at https://www.care-one.com/save-dan.

More than 1,000 people are expected to attend the fundraiser.
