Weymouth Health Care Center employees are coming to the aid of a colleague who is fighting lung cancer.
More than $770 was raised for Dan Grimes, 42, the regional director of operations of HealthBridge Management that oversees the Performance Drive skilled nursing facility, during a cookout July 18 where each of those attending donated $5 or more. About 30 health care workers from the South Shore joined the Weymouth facility employees for the event.
The highlight of the cookout was a chance for employees to witness health care center administrator Jim Keane having his head shaved. He offered a challenge that if $2,500 were raised by the date of the cookout, he would shave his coif.
According to Weymouth Health Care Center marketing director Carol said Grimes has worked for HealthBridge for more than 10 years and has four children, all under the age of 11. Despite the fact that he never smoked, she said Grimes “is challenged by the fight of his life from lung cancer.”
“Dan is one of those special guys that everyone knows, likes and respects,” said Corio. “He has been in various management positions in health care across the South Shore area and beyond during his health care career. He is loved and respected by his colleagues both inside and outside the HealthBridge Management team and many professionals in health care have either worked with Dan or knows someone who did.”
Corio said HealthBridge has established CareOne Management, a nonprofit fund that helps communities in need. She explained that the company, through CareOne, has set up a fund for Dan Grimes and has set a goal to raise $1 million to help not only employees, but also community members afflicted with cancer.
HealthBridge is sponsoring two benefits for the fund.
On July 27 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., there will be a benefit at Fenway Park, and on Aug. 12, a golf tournament will be held at Norwood Country Club. For information on the benefits, contact Corio at email@example.com.
