CareOne At The Cupola Resident To Receive Congressional Gold Medal

Paramus, NJ – February 12, 2016 – CareOne at the Cupola assisted living resident Milton “Manny” Schucard will receive a Congressional Gold Medal this Tuesday for his service in the Civil Air Patrol during World War II. Civil Air Patrol, a group of more than 100,000 volunteers, devoted themselves to serving their country during World War II by providing valuable assistance, which included flying patrols to stop U-boat attacks, conducting search and rescue missions and patrolling the country’s borders by air. More than 70 years later, Civil Air Patrol members will receive recognition for their service as legislation in both houses of Congress will award the group with a single Congressional God Medal to recognize their contributions during the war.

A Paterson, NJ resident for more than 40 years, Mr. Schucard, served as a Civil Air Patrol pilot during World War II. In addition to flying, he fixed planes and worked on experimental air crafts. Mr. Schucard was also part of the Nike Missile Project, which developed the first operational anti-aircraft missile system in the U.S. and worked with the Israeli Air Force to set up engine overhaul facilities.

Mr. Schucard says he is excited to receive the medal, which will be presented at a ceremony that will include a brief presentation on the history of Civil Air Patrol and the Congressional Gold Medal. NJ Congressman Scott Garrett plans to attend the ceremony, which will take place this Tuesday, February 16th at 2:00 pm at CareOne at the Cupola, 100 W. Ridgewood Avenue, Paramus, NJ 07652.
