CareOne at Ridgewood Avenue Partners With Hackensack University Medical Center On Elder Life Volunteer Program
CareOne at Ridgewood Avenue has partnered with Hackensack University Medical Center’s HELP, Hospital Elder Life Volunteer Program, on the first ever joint venture incorporating hospital volunteers at a skilled nursing facility. “HELP Summer Interns will be assigned one volunteer shift at Hackensack UMC and a second weekly shift at Care One at Ridgewood Avenue,” explained CareOne at Ridgewood Avenue Assistant Administrator Shibani Gupta. The program at CareOne will mirror the program at Hackensack UMC. Volunteers will provide therapeutic activities, orienting conversation, feeding assistance, and range of motion/mobility interventions at both the hospital and CareOne. “We hope to follow patients that have been discharged from Hackensack UMC and then admitted to the sub-acute facility,” said Hackensack UMC HELP Elder Life Specialist Nadine R. Benoit. “We will also survey patients at Care One at Ridgewood Avenue to get feedback on the program.” Interns participating in the program are college students majoring in health care related fields who are interested in gaining senior care experience and the opportunity to work closely with industry professionals. “If this program is successful, CareOne at Ridgewood Avenue hopes to start our own program in the near future,” said Ms. Gupta.
