Morristown, NJ – July 30, 2015 – CareOne at Madison Avenue partnered with County College of Morris to provide hands-on learning experiences for students participating in the Health Professions Grant Programs (HPOG and TAACCCT), which support low-income or unemployed individuals to get certified for employment in the healthcare industry and covers all expenses from tuition to books, state exam fees and even childcare. “Unlike other programs, we afford individuals the opportunity to learn and we provide support to help them overcome obstacles that block their entry to gainful employment,” said Health Professions Site Coordinator Dr. John A. Johnson. “Through the grant, we have been able to significantly impact the lives of our students and their families,” added CCM Adjunct Instructor Dale Favia.

CareOne at Madison Avenue Administrator Kristen Compton visited the students on campus and educated them about healthcare employment opportunities in the rehabilitation and senior care fields. “As an educator, I believe in authentic learning experiences and we appreciate this opportunity to work with CareOne at Madison Avenue,” said Johnson.

The students also had the opportunity to visit CareOne at Madison Avenue where they toured the facility and shadowed department heads throughout the day to gain first-hand experience in all aspects of rehabilitation and senior care. “It’s important for us to help CCM provide an experiential learning program so the students are not just reading about health care in textbooks, but are physically engaged in it,” said Compton.

Working with CareOne at Madison Avenue staff also helped students decide which areas of healthcare they want to specialize in. “This is a wonderful program and I love how they help us every step of the way in moving forward with our career paths,” said CCM student and grant recipient Deirdre Hanlon of Randolph, NJ. “I enjoyed learning from the CareOne at Madison Avenue staff. The center is clean and organized. It’s a place I would feel comfortable sending my grandmother to.”
