Fort Lee, NJ – July 13, 2015 – In an effort to expand the reach of educational opportunities for rehabilitation therapists, CareOne has partnered with Atlantic Health System to present a lecture series for Physical and Occupational Therapists and Assistants and Speech Language Pathologists. The first course, Fall Prevention: A Balancing Act, was held on Tuesday, June 23rd at Morristown Medical Center.

“Our goal in partnering with Atlantic Health System is to develop an educational outreach series for the therapy community which emphasizes the critical importance of establishing excellence in transitional care across the healthcare continuum,” said Ian Oppel, CareOne’s Senior Vice President of Rehabilitation Services. “This co-sponsored event enabled our companies to expand our educational resource bandwidth and draw from our combined clinical expertise to promote a greater understanding of fall prevention and intervention – a challenge faced by all therapy healthcare providers from hospital to post-acute care to home”.

More than 175 attendees participated in this free event to learn more about the geriatric continuum of care pertaining to fall-related injuries as well as objective measures, valuable interventions and safe discharge planning. Expert panelists included:

  • Keerti Sharma, MD, AGSF, Director of Inpatient Geriatric Services and Director of the Geriatric Assessment Center, Morristown Medical Center
  • Robert Clark, PT, DPT, GCS, Senior Director of Education and Development, CareOne
  • Jessica Darrah, PT, DPT, inpatient acute care Physical Therapist, Morristown Medical Center
  • Mirlana Morris, MSW, Regional Director of Social Work and Quality Assurance, CareOne
  • Mary Freeman, PT, MS, Physical Therapist, Atlantic Homecare and Hospice

“Pooling our resources made it possible for us to provide employees and therapists in the community with the opportunity for free, quality continuing education,” said Roberta D’Achille, PT, MS, Manager of Rehabilitation, Morristown Medical Center. The course received positive feedback from attendees who look forward to more continuing education opportunities. “The seminar on falls was a wonderful, engaging presentation. CareOne and Atlantic Health System should be commended. All of the presenters were knowledgeable and skilled in their areas,” said attendee Sharon Baum, Principal Physical Therapist at Green Brook Regional Center.
