CareOne At Jackson Resident Spearheads Community-Wide Volunteer Program
CareOne at Jackson resident Judy Hawco shares how she uses her extensive volunteer skills to make a positive impact on others.
“I chose CareOne at Jackson to be closer to my two young grandchildren. When I arrived, I didn’t know anyone. I not only wanted to meet new people, but I also wanted to contribute to the CareOne at Jackson community. I had a wide variety of employment and volunteer experience and decided to put my skills to good use.
I found others, who like me, love to read and there began my love of fixing up the library. I sent requests to publishers for donations of large print books, worked with Debbie, our Director of Recreation, to re-arrange the furniture to give the room a cozier feel and make books more accessible.
I also became the unofficial welcoming committee, greeting new residents, helping them give their rooms a home-like feel and encouraging them to attend the vast array of activities.
Through working with Debbie, I also became the Volunteer Coordinator, assisting Debbie with recruiting volunteers, meeting all prospective volunteers and attending our volunteer orientation. These are just a few highlights of the many ways I contribute to our CareOne at Jackson community, which I love and am motivated by. Boredom is not a word in my vocabulary or any of our residents here at Care One. The staff keeps us moving and grooving!
I have been fortunate that the staff here at CareOne at Jackson allow me the privilege of helping where and when I can. The art of volunteering gives you the chance to use your skills to enhance your own life and the lives of others. We are currently recruiting new volunteers to join our Care One family! Volunteers make their own schedules and choose their specific assignments based on their interests and strengths. The best part is you are making a positive difference in the lives of others one resident at a time!”
