CareOne at Ewing’s intergenerational & pet programs brighten residents’ days!

By Vivian Dillon, Director of Recreation, CareOne at Ewing

CareOne at Ewing is proud to offer a variety of recreational and therapeutic programs that enhance our residents’ well-being and quality of life. Our intergenerational and pet therapy programs have been especially well received by our residents:

Intergenerational Program

CareOne at Ewing has partnered with two local schools to participate in our intergenerational program, which partners our residents with students in a variety of fun activities, including karaoke sing-alongs, word games and holiday crafts. The teachers and I discuss the program content in advance so the students will be prepared. Most recently, students made Easter decorations with residents and participated in a talent show, where some played instruments or read prose they wrote. Our residents are elated when the students come.

Pet Therapy

The pet therapy program takes place once a week and is provided by volunteer Linda Rostron (a Ewing resident) and her Bichon Frise, Arnie (at left). Arnie is trained as a pet therapist and is a member of The Bright & Beautiful Therapy Dogs, Inc. He visits residents in their rooms or in common areas, as well as newly admitted patients on the sub-acute unit. Arnie also passes through the Therapy Department and group recreation programs to say hello to residents. Arnie recognizes the residents he visits regularly and looks for them in the group if they are not in their rooms.

CareOne at Ewing is located at 1201 Parkway Ave. in Ewing, N.J. For more information about these and other programs at CareOne at Ewing, contact us at 609-882-6900.
